The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) is one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions. For over 2 years I had the chance to lead the creative direction and strategy on a variety of experience-based projects within the Museum.
For the Museum’s flagship App, Explorer, we were challenged to create a new design system that pushed forward the Museum’s visual aesthetic, helped improve navigation through the Museum and reach a broader more digitally connected audience.
To do so we crafted a creative brief that centered around the themes of “Clarity, Fun and Delight over Confusion, Boredom and Old-Fashioned”.
To help meet this brief we created an visual direction that mixed the Museum’s rich Photography archives with an exciting color palette, large bold typography and fun approachable copy.
In addition to ensure that a visitor could easily get from point A to B we developed a beacon-based strategy and experience that always allowed access to a turn-by-turn navigation system from anywhere in the app.
